Sr. SHAFTY

Featuring a diversity of social programs, Sr. SHAFTY (9th - 12th grades) offers teens a chance to learn about their Jewish identity by developing important relationships with each other, participating in a wide range of activities, and taking on valuable leadership skills.

This high school-aged group is incredibly essential to our community. They are role models for lower classmen in so many ways – they design and lead monthly and High Holy Day programs, organize fundraisers, donate to tzedakah, hold bi-monthly meetings, run the Purim carnival, and participate in social action projects which benefit organizations local and worldwide. They also demonstrate acts of kindness and take care of one another. In addition, our teens have fun at events such as the Midnight Bowling Shul-in, Speed Raceway, Escape the Room, a day in NYC and many more.

For teens that are interested in a more active role, we encourage them to run for a position on the SHAFTY Board. From this experience, these teens find that they have an edge when they get to college because they have been exposed to leadership, teamwork, public speaking, and a multitude of responsibilities.

Best of all, our Senior Youth Group is one of the largest and most active in NFTY/PAR (National Federation of Temple Youth in the Pennsylvania Area Region), and several times a year our Sr. SHAFTY kids attend specially themed weekend retreats organized by NFTY/PAR regional officers.
