New Program for 2008/2009
Our Inaugural Confirmation Class
Enrollment limited to 12 students

Congregation Shir Ami’s Inaugural Confirmation Class is open to all 8th and 9th grade students in the San Diego Jewish Community (affiliation with any temple or synagogue is not necessary).

We will study Jewish social ethics and values and consider how they apply to various contemporary issues. The school year will culminate with a weekend trip to Los Angeles to experience Shabbat and a visit to the Holocaust Museum. The class will look at issues of identity, sexual values, anti-semitism, and mixed marriage. The final effort of the year is to create the Confirmation service.

Along with special guests, our class will be led by Rabbi Mel Libman. He is an inspiring spiritual leader and an extraordinary scholar and teacher. Our confirmation class will be made up of young people who choose to continue their Jewish learning after their B’nai Mitzvah. This will be a special group whose ongoing involvement with study and synagogue life holds out the promise that they will be our core leaders in the future.

This will be an engaging and wonderful educational opportunity for all students. No matter where you are in your learning and your Jewish identity, this class will help you grow and transition into an adult role in Jewish life.

Please call the synagogue office or email us at info@shirami.org, for a brochure or if you have any questions.
