"It is our duty to strive to improve the world."

Making An Impact Through Racial & Social Justice
The Shir Ami Tikkun Olam Committee has chosen to join the Religious Action Center (RAC) Cohort on Racial Justice, which includes all forms of bigotry. As Reform Jews, it is our duty to strive to improve the world. We have begun by exploring how we think and feel about racism in America and trying to deepen our understanding. Through reading and examining books such as White Fragility and How to be an Antiracist, we spur conversation about how to acknowledge and overcome our implicit biases.

Watching and discussing films such as Best of Enemies teaches us about the deep structural racism that afflicts our society. Next steps will involve learning how racism impacts our own community. By developing relationships with partners across race in our community and participating in interfaith coalitions and activities we strive to take meaningful action to confront racial injustice.

Please join us in our efforts to learn more and make a difference. If you want to get involved, have ideas for future activities, please contact the chair at tikkunolam@shiramipa.org.
